Jon Moyle Honored by Higher Education Coordinating Council
~Attorney and resident of Port St. Joe recognized for leadership--~
TALLAHASSEE – Jon Moyle, Sr. of Port St. Joe has been recognized by the Higher Education Coordinating Council (HECC). Recognizing Moyle’s outstanding leadership as inaugural co-chair and for his lifelong commitment to improving education for generations of Florida students, the 11 member board presented him with a gold gavel award at their meeting on October 29, 2013 in Tallahassee. Moyle is retiring from the board after 4 years of service.
The HECC, established in 2010 by the Florida Legislature, is the first organized approach to review and successfully coordinate the delivery of education in Florida, aligning the sectors with the opportunities in Florida’s economy. Each year, the board’s recommendations are submitted in an official report to the Florida Legislature and designated regulatory boards. Among the duties of the HECC are the oversight and coordination of new educational programs offered by Florida's higher education sectors.
In 2010, following the creation of the HECC, Moyle was appointed by then-Senate President Jeff Atwater and was elected as co-chair by the membership, along with Marshall M. Criser, III. Criser was also appointed to the Council in 2010, by then House Speaker Dennis Cretul. Moyle is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Florida, School of Law.
In addition to leading the development of the Council, Moyle is a long- time leader in education. Founding a successful law firm in 1963, throughout his career Moyle devoted countless volunteer hours to community organizations, protecting consumers and improving educational opportunities for students. He held leadership positions in several governance boards and served in numerous organizations. Moyle and his family are also supporters of several charities and worthy endeavors.
Created in 2010 by the Florida Legislature, the Council is comprised of eleven members, outlined in Florida Statute.
